ISL vs QG – PSL – Team Previews
Islamabad United
Islamabad United had a successful start to the eighth edition of the tournament, winning four out of their first six matches. However, their high spirits were dampened after a heartbreaking loss to Lahore Qalandars on Monday. They come into the game with a win over Karachi Kings, largely thanks to Azam Khan’s unbeaten knock of 72 runs.
The highly anticipated arrival of star English opener Alex Hales has finally come, and he is expected to open the batting with Colin Munro. Emerging bowling all-rounder Zeeshan Zameer may be dropped from the starting eleven, but his spot is likely to be taken by Rumman Raees.
Azam Khan has been the standout batsman of the tournament so far, having scored 44 and an unbeaten 72 in both games against Karachi Kings, and a sublime 97 in the last meeting with Quetta Gladiators in February.
Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators are having a tough time qualifying for the playoffs, having won just one of their first six games. They suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of United in their first encounter earlier in the season, losing by 63 runs in Karachi.
Mohammad Hafeez was left out of the playing eleven after the opening fixture but returned to the team in the next game. His fighting knock of 48 runs from 26 balls and a 69-run partnership with skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed kept the Gladiators in the game until his dismissal.
The Gladiators will be hoping that Mohammad Hasnain, who missed their last match due to an ankle problem, is fit to return. They are already without Jason Roy, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Will Jacks, and Odean Smith’s stint with the team is coming to an end.
The head-to-head record between these teams in the Pakistani top-flight league stands at 8-8 after 16 encounters.
