The Australian and Indian cricket teams, having concluded a gripping Border-Gavaskar Trophy with their eyes set on the World Test Championship final, are now switching gears to prepare for another ICC tournament at the end of the year.

India’s Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team in India vs Australia ODI series but will be absent in the opening game due to personal reasons, with Hardik Pandya taking over the reins as captain. The Indian team has a formidable reputation when playing at home, having won all six of their home ODIs this year against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

However, they will have to contend with the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who is missing his second successive ODI series due to injury. Even though Australia will miss Cummins and Hazlewood, they have the return of veteran batter David Warner and all-rounder Ashton Agar, who both returned home during the Test series but are now back in India with the national squad.
