Melbourne Stars
In their second game of the competition against the Hobert Hurricanes, the Melbourne Stars staged an impressive comeback. The Stars scored 183-5 after being chosen to bat first on an excellent batting deck at the MCG, thanks in large part to an unbeaten 101 off 66 balls from Joe Clarke. The opening batsman’s fourth T20 century.
The fact that Marcus Stoinis was fired for a duck for the second time in a row is one of the major concerns for the Stars. For the Stars, Stoinis is a crucial player, and his declining play will eventually have an impact on the group’s overall success.
The best part about Melbourne Stars this year is their bowling. For their team, Trent Boult, Luke Wood, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Captain Adam Zampa are excelling.
Perth Scorchers
Perth Scorchers started their season strong, defeating Sydney Sixers by 38 runs, but lost to Hobart Hurricanes by 8 runs in their subsequent game. Perth was able to score 164-8 in response to a target of 173. The top and middle order for Perth haven’t been playing well thus far.
Aaron Hardie led all scorers in the first game with 55 (off 32 balls), and Josh Inglis was the only player to contribute significantly in the second game with 62 (off 37 balls). They urgently require Faf du Plessis, an accomplished leader, to take the reins. Adam Lyth, Nick Hobson, and captain Ashton Turner must all do better.
Perth’s bowling attack has been led by Jhye Richardson, who has 7 wickets at a fantastic economy rate of just 4.37. One of the best bowling efforts in the history of the event was his stint of 4-9 off of 4 overs against the Sydney Sixers.
